No, Rosalind, I didn't cut out the ells; I just got lucky! And no, it isn't a different date; doing a puzzle by my favorite setters is my Father's Day treat!

Do you have teeny-weeny scissors?

Same date.
Sentiment not always spot on though.

Well, I hope you got a bit more treated than that!

That's a very personal question, haha ;-)) !! I have scissors ranging from fearsome choppers for thick fabrics to the tiniest blades for embroidery.

They are such clever setters and with the help from ginge (though I should have tried for longer with 3 dn) finished it (never did get the SE corner last week. At home indeed)

I'm not wearing a collar today, AB.

Very laid-back celebration, Rosalind. We're recovering from my mother-in-law's funeral, which was on Friday. There had to be a thousand callers at her wake; she seems to have known EVERYBODY.

Your mother-in-law must have been a very special person, aristo. So many funerals of old people are attended by family only.
I cooked steak for my son as my d-i-l very busy with an art exhibition. I could hardly believe it when my grandson marched in dressed as Zorro, whom I'd never heard of before I tackled today's crossword.

There was a Zorro TV show here in the 1950s, and a number of movies.

Yes, I googled him. Wonder why a 5 year old knows about him? Maybe he's been revived.
Also had to sew the ties back on the yellow mask, toys not being made to last 5 mins.

So five-year-old boys still identify with sword-fighters.

My goodness, do they ever? I have at least two kinds of swords (katana?? and something like washi something- plastic, obviously!) on my sideboard ready and did some sword fighting myself today.
Trouble is, he's better than me

When my son was turning three and we asked him what he wanted for his birthday, he said, "A sword of honor and a shield of virtue," (I was rather taken aback) and I made them for him out of wood, with his initial painted on the shield. I came upon them recently and just broke down.
