Been shut out of the site for hours. Tried to find something ending in WAX for 3, no doubt barking up wrong tree- or growth.

Hi to Chris and well done Ari (4/5). Pity about your ongoing problems.
It's a rare occurrence to have one unsolved, even if it's a bit far out. Here are my solutions

1. spell = while; starts to remove enchantment = re; WHILERE (archaic = out-of-date) = formerly (Chambers def)

2. rip off = con; money = tin; British university = OU; America = US; con + tin + u(ou)s = CONTINUOUS = with no let-up (colloq – Chambers Thes)

3. opening = door; adventure centre = n: boom = increase (Ox and Chambers thesauri); DOORNBOOM = a S African acacia (Chambers def)

4. subtractive anagram (out & for a change) of “ case studies” – “act” = DISEUSES (diseur or {fem} diseuse = a reciter or entertainer – Chambers def)

5. catholic = universal (Chambers def); joint = club (Ch and Ox thes’i); UNIVERSAL JOINT = one part of it allows complete freedom of movement (last part of clue adapted from Chambers def)

I can honestly say that i had parsed #3 correctly (looks like Aristo did too).
'opening' N 'increase' leading to a South African plant - just so many options. Grrrr
Great clues (continuous was my fave).

That was driving me nuts, Jolan. I was sure that it parsed as opening N increase for a South African plant. And I must have seen one at Kirstenbosch! You old fox.
