Morning, susan! yes, "Syzygy" lives in a very different time zone, might well be awake now though. With his tacit permission I'll give my rendering for what it's worth:
bondage = leather minus ER (Queen) on the outside
Inside: P=Prince
Off=high (eg meat)
A1: famous main road
I presume to believe all that in a tabloid would require a veritable "l. of f."!

Hello Aristophanes, this is NOT a submission for Clueless, I just thought of an anagram which will only work right now. After today it'll be too late to send it!

So I hear pants are in the hot seat! (12)

Unusual plea by King with no head for commitment (4,2,5)

(If any of those are too close to other entries just disregard them Mr A. Don't think I'll have time to parse the multitude today! :) )

Oh my goodness; I thought this would be a daunting answer to clue. I’m astounded by all these entries. What a great response! As other setters have remarked, it’s quite difficult to single out one entry among so many worthy ones.

I was hoping to see a mention of Kierkegaard, and the erudite high-flier obliged @4. I’ll just mention a few other favorite touches: mattrom’s wonderful “Adam’s bound” (as in “Adam lay ybounden”) @7, ixion’s “uncertain path of life” @16, les40’s “shaken, not stirred” and superb definition @17, fieryjack’s “Apollo lift-off…journey into the unknown” @18, BigBad’s “FIFA corruption” @20, the hip Vancouverite syzygy’s leather and abdicating Queen @29, AB’s stunning “Hi-Fi vault” @37…

OK, getting carried away. Anyway, I usually frown on anagrams, but have found that my frowning doesn’t affect them in the least, and am still impressed by perfect ones. And what could be more perfect than chiaroscuro’s clue @13:

Fatal hope if misguided? (4,2,5) ?

(By the way, I think of chiaroscuro as a rather Kierkegaardian technique.)

Here’s you prize:

Thanks so much to all of you. I so enjoyed catching your curveballs.
