thanks to all, done.

25a the only thing I can come up with is 'nocilis' who make educational toys from silicon.
As this is reversed (in reccession) I can only assume that silicon is correct.
IF, and I am sticking my neck out here. IF i am correct. This is the reason I have stopped attempting the DM. Dreadful clues by a poor setter.
