Good afternoon, Elle!
I am just mildly warm.
I have no fever.
I am impressed with paracetamol, though.
Very effective.
Do not worry about being doolally.
It adds a bit of character to folk, I think.
That's good you are liking the book.
I cannot think of another of his books in which he uses the "US editors" technique. He is making sure the history is correct.
Speaking of doolally....
In one Michener book, possibly "Texas", there was a character early on in the book, a Mexican, and he returned a few chapters later, with a different name.
It was something like Tranquilino Marquez to Triunfador Marquez.
And nobody noticed the error.
Not Michener or any of the editors.
And it went into print like that!
I think Michener said that his books are edited 9 times before publication.
So forget about going doolally!

Hi, Rusty!
We have just come back from a somewhat poggy walk!
It is still raining but no longer torrentially.
It was a good walk - much cooler...nice to feel energetic again!
Now, Mr. M......my interpretation of the "editors" formula is that he uses it to remind the reader that this is a 'report'.......rather than just a 'story'?
I could be way off beam here though as this is only the first book of his that I have read.
Do any of his other books take this format?
Speaking of editing.... many years ago, I did a proof reading course.
(I did it just out of interest because the correction of grammar, punctuation etc. appealed to me!)
It was enjoyable and I passed it with flying colours.......but I was 'warned' by the examiners that if I ever took a "job" doing proof-reading professionally, I wouldn't be allowed to be so accurate!
Apparently , most "mistakes" are allowed through - only "howlers" are picked up - because otherwise it would work out too expensive to correct all the faults - and also would offend the author!
They sent me an example of a text......I could never have let it go at that....it offended all my principles!
I decided proof reading was definitely not for me!
Has Miss O given you her schedule for tomorrow?

Hello, Elle!
Bright and sunny here.
Just had a walk and am in high feather!
That is very interesting about your proof reading,
I can't think of any other (there are a lot) book by Michener where he uses the "US editors" approach, but...
I read one of his books where he explains all about his proof readers at Random House and how they do it.
I think they suggest alternative words etc.
I am not sure which book of his it is, though.
He wrote one "The Novel", but I can not remember if that was it. I read his bio too, "The World is My Home"... may have been in that?
Miss O is on her way home from school.
Just over half hour drive for her.
I'll see what she says later.

Good evening, Rusty!
I have been watching the Davis Cup Semi Final match between Great Britain and Argentina - in the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.
What a match!!!
It lasted over five hours - although I have only been watching since I came back from the park.
I have been glued to my seat!
Neither Andy Murray nor Juan -Martin Del Potro deserved to lose, but sadly Andy did.
I think this has to be the best Davis Cup match that I have ever seen!
It went to five sets, with Del Potro finally managing to break Andy's serve just before the end.
I of course had wanted GB to win...but have to grant superiority today to Del Potro.
He was fantastic.
Did you watch by any chance?

Hello, Elle!
No, I did not know it was on.
I like del Potro though, and am quite pleased he won.
I think Murray should have been at his grandfather's funeral, rather than playing tennis, though.
How is your weather now?
It is a lovely day here.

Hi, Rusty!
I didn't even know that Andy's grandfather had died, let alone that the funeral was today.
And yes, he should have been at the funeral, but.........he has a commitment to the Davis Cup team.......
I am no fan of Andy's, as you well know, but I can see how this could present as a predicament.
He is not playing for himself here as in most tennis tournaments, but for his country.
It is not cut and dried......
But why choose today for the funeral?
Surely this "choice" for Andy could have been avoided?
Funerals can be arranged for any time......and Judy wasn't at the funeral either!
I saw her spectating!
As it is, he was rather between a rock and a hard place?
Goodness, I don't even like the man...why am I (semi) defending him?
Our rain is over...we even had some sunshine before it went dark!
Have you talked with Miss Orlando?

Hello, Elle!
Murray's grandfather is nothing to do with his mother.
She has no reason to attend. She is not related.
Surely to goodness there are other players in the team who could have stood in for him?
He has no defence. He should have been at the funeral.
Family comes before games.
The tennis game in the great scheme of things is completely unimportant.
That's what I think.

Hi, Rusty!
You and I would put family first, yes.......but in this particular instance I can understand Andy's dilemma, even if his chosen decision would not be MY personal choice.
But I don't know why I am bothering to defend him - I really cannot like him.
He even walked off the court today without waiting for Del Potro.
Now......I have finally solved the mystery of the Egghead's varying Leader board!
There are TWO different leader boards - one for the male contestants and one for the females!
I cannot understand why I didn't realise this before?
Oh dear!

Hello, Elle!
Two leader boards?
That sort of explains it.
I have not watched it for a while.
Still recovering from Olympic viewing!
Not much sport for me until the Ryder Cup in a couple of weeks.
I have to be out and about earlyish tomorrow.
Things to do, and La Bamba is coming to see me!

Hi, Rusty!
We are now up to the Semi Finals in "Make Me an Egghead".
I don't know how the procedure works. as I haven't seen it previously.
I shall prefer it when we are back to the normal "Eggheads" programme. I really enjoy that.
I shall if possible be watching some of the Davis Cup tennis tomorrow and Sunday on BBC1.
And, if you are interested, there are the Highlights of the Women's Elite Triathlon Race in Mexico, also on Sunday, on BBC2
Plus the Men's Elite Triathlon shown on Monday.
I shall set the recorder.
What time do you have to be out tomorrow? Do you have to rush back for Miss L-B's visit? or is she a late riser?
We go to the park very early on a Saturday so as to be out of the way before the Running Club starts at 9 am.
There are about 200 members so it can get busy!
