Hi all, just popped in and saw interesting exchange about France. I love it too. We took the children camping there year after year in summer holidays. Can't resist little suggestion, Pigale, (post 827) - perhaps transvesties are a type of body-warmer for cross people, to help them chill! (Blame the idea on the cheap French wine I just sampled!)

Actually, the 'transvesties' could also be getting ready to play in a pantomine ? Isn't that when women play men's part and men play women's ?

Hi Elle, that's a relief! I had begun to wonder if my little Saturday-evening-at-a-loose-end joke had been a bad idea. I saw the word with one letter missing (I do it all the time!) and saw the funny side of it. Any excuse to play around with words, eh? It's one of those things that'll stick in my mind now!! you've coined a new word (altho it was Pigale's 'word' originally!) for bodywarmers (or gilets)

yea but .... pigale still does not know the proper word in English! In French we say 'travestis' - that's what comes of trying to take a guess at translation!

On top of it, my 'very good and proper' dictionary does not give me the translation for that particular meaning of the word ! So please someone, put me out of my misery....
