Wasps are vital to the eco-system and without them there would be an incorrect balance. I just leave all the insects to sort themselves out in my garden. It is completely organic :)

Hi Jazzgirl, I do agree about the eco-system and I do leave the little creatures to do what they do. I don't spray anything and some years the garden looks better than other years! Some years I'm on top of it - some years I'm swamped! This year -so, so! But I always dread the wasps! However, this year I have loads of lovely bees!

I think I am being extra vigilant this year.
Last summer I had a wasps bike in my loft and I was continually meeting them in the kitchen.
I think the kitchen wasps had taken a wrong turning somewhere.
Anyway, the wasps and me did not have a cosy relationship!

Rusty, please reassure me that you haven't purchased a cheap kitchen. It would attract unwanted wasps! (Only joking!)

Yes, there are dozens of bees all over the chives, lavender, orange blossom and honeysuckle. I have to try hard not to say I love one insect but dislike another. (I am a Chris Packham fan). This week saw the arrival of tiny damselflies and bristletails, and before that , ladybirds.

Susan, I do have a newish kitchen.
But I do not know what it cost.
My sons installed it (without wasps) and very little money changed hands.
I have an idea most folk on the forum are from the South.

Hiya jazzgirl and Rusty, I just googled Chris Packham. Really interesting, I'm just so pleased to have lots of bees and no wasps! I mustn't talk too soon! Rusty, I hope you like your kitchen and I'm glad it's a family affair. Aren't these Cheap Kitchen posts annoying?

There are fewer wasps than last year also we havent seen so many bees.We have had a wasp nest in the lft nest for years but we dont bother them and they dont bother us,but the nest itself is wonderful precision made with no tools.We have got a lot of ticks this year and even the dogs have had them most insects I can live with but ticks and earwigs I hate though we dont get so many as we did in Norfolk

Just would like to say that I do not like wasps either, but my pet hate are hornets - do they do any good Jazzgirl?

I suppose since they have been put on earth, they must serve a purpose, but I was stung by one when I was three, and I still remember now! hence I am scared of them!

Hornets, as far as I know, are just good for keeping the "pest" insect population under control. I've never seen a nest here in South east England
