There is a term for "mad" that is often used in my area that I notice Anne Bradford has, too. "Redwood".
Why "redwood" I have no idea, but it is used by the older generation quite a bit, up here.
She also has "cupcake.
I do not know what a cupcake is?
And why is a fruitcake mad?

Like Rossim, I have heard of "as nutty as a fruitcake" meaning 'mad', but not 'cupcake' in that sense.
But looking it up in Chambers gives 'cupcake' as a small cake; an attractive woman ; a mad or eccentric person; or a term of endearment.
So Anne Bradford rules ok!
