If so, I have heard of it but never used it.

Morning to you Rusty - ~Am afraid my fingers played tricks on me, I meant 'Skype' and not Spyke! No wonder it was new to you!

I did not realise Hawshead had an outdoor gear company - my friends never mentionned it. I know of the links with Beatrix Potter, and I also know by name all the pubs...., ! I guess they view this as priority information and it will be if/when I go there. But we normally see each other here, since they own a house just ten metres away from my place.

Weather here very nice but rather cool because of North East wind, hence temperature does not feel more than 20/22. When protected from wind it probably reaches 25/26, which is nice. Due to increase tomorrow I think.

In this Centre area of France, we can either be the hottest or the coldest part of the country. The River Loire (only 12 miles away) has a great influence on our weather and we seem to be in the centre of a small circle with conditions of our own.

I'm appalled at the gaps in my historical knowledge though; for instance I hadn't realised that Austria was looking for a fight with Serbia long before the shooting of Archduke Ferdinand in Sarajevo.
And so it continues... I know some things but not others, I 'm continuing to be educated!
I don't think you would like the new books I have just received from Amazon as they are fiction. I decided I needed a bit of 'light relief this time around.
I've got the latest books of John Harvey, Michael Connelly and Patricia Cornwell. Not really up your street......

Yes Rusty, Skype is really good - it gives you the pleasure of seeing the person you are talking to, hence making you feel quite close to him/her.
Only one problem though ; when it gets too busy, the connection might be difficult, irregular - but that depends on hour and day - week-ends usually more busy, understandably.

I certainly found the use of Skype very reassuring after my four-year-old grandson crashed their car in to the lamppost! at least I could see that he was largely in one piece!!

Hello Elle, Yes indeed I was glad to see on the thread that you had 'skyped' the family - nothing could have reassured you more at the time, you so much needed to see for yourself!

Less walking for you today ? I guess it must be difficult to be without a car when you are used to have one. ~As you have probably guessed from one of my post, I don't drive and don't miss it!

I don't drive either , pigale! so I am well used to walking everywhere unless my husband is with me!
What I do miss with the lack of personal transport is the amount of time lost in the getting somewhere!

Quite, but it also depends on where you live and public transport available.

I am within walking distance of the centre of the village (where there are 3 hairdressers amongst other shops) and there is a coach that goes twice a week to a bigger town about 20km away -

well, in fact there is a daily service - it leaves here 7am and return 6.30pm - mainly for working people and students, our own college only taking kids up to the Brevet, (around 15 years old).

But the one I use is Wednesday or Saturday leaving 2pm and returning 6.30 - an afternoon out every so often, which is quite enough for me now ! (and to think I was born in Paris ! Just goes to show how we change with the years!)

I (unfortunately) live in a much more built up area, and have bus, train, and ram within relatively easy reach. Good though for someone like me who doesn't drive!

although the prospect of charging down the High Street on the back of a ram does have its appeal!
