Hello, Pigale!
I used to/still do, wonder what the various teams sponsors did.
I remember the Castorama kit well.
Castorama were a do-it-yourself chain, and their kit resembled bib and brace overalls!
I have vivid memories of a great hero of mine who rode for them. Thierry Marie.
One year in Le Tour he attacked on one of his mad lone breaks. He never came back!
His break was 235 kms and he won by over a minute.
That was the day that Greg LeMond refused to wear the yellow jersey out of respect for Rolf Sorensen who had crashed and abandoned.

Quick-step was another surprise to me.
I think they make flooring products, laminates etc!

I miss Le Tour!

Didn't Claudio Chiappucci do something similar in that strip?

Jazzgirl, great story about Billy!
I vaguely remember young Bill.
He was a senior lad at BBC, wasn't he?
Good luck with your crossword!
None for me today, I did not get a paper.
I have The Times on-line but I'll do without it today.
Listening to Rondo Veneziano; a change from my usual musical choices!

I miss too Rusty - shame it's only once a year !

For info -
AG2R La Mondiale is a Contingency Fund type of insurance.

FDJ = FRANCAISE DES JEUX - National legal betting funds (PMU ie horse racing, scratch games, loto etc)

COFIDIS - Revolving Credit company (highly dangerous to get involved in I think ! )

BRETAGNE-SECHE - A Britany company responsible for dealing with domestic refuse

EUROPCAR - Hire car company

This is for the French teams.

As far as Quick Step is concerned, they do make flooring products etc... but they are also involved in 'food products for sport men and women'

The cycling mag I bought before Le Tour gives the name of the sponsors for every team, so let me know if you want to know more - It's no problem !

Chris, I hear a wee bell ringing faintly with regard to Claudio!

Pigale, I knew Europcar, of course, and Cofidis, not the others, though.

I remember , too, when my sons were installing a kitchen for me, I noticed a a bag of cement-like stuff with "Mapei" stamped on the side of it.
Mapei were a top Italian team for a few years.
Pantani and Roche rode for Carrera, but I did not know, for ages, that they made jeans!
I wonder what "Z" did?

We once went to watch a cyclo-cross event in Roundhay Park, Leeds, because Claudio was billed to take part. He came in last! He was wearing the workman's bib then, though.
