Hi, Rusty!
You are lucky with your nice weather.
Here it has already changed....very grey...and feeling very cold, especially after an apparent 24C yesterday!
Today the temp is only expected to hit a high of 14C.
(And we haven't got there yet!)
What a difference!
I am afraid I cannot see 14a?
in Yorkshire, the tavern that provides this? (1,3)
I have ? / B?R
Something bar?
What has Yorkshire to do with it?
And why should I think of ski slopes?
I am sorry if I am being dim, here.....I think you will need to spell this out for me, please .....
And I cannot parse 11a: Does salt always stick to this big dish? (4,6)
I have "main course" = "big dish" (def)
But cannot see why?
Also, 11d: Garrulous, like a TV lunatic absorbing atmosphere (9)
This is obviously , "talkative" = "garrulous" (def)
Anagram of "like a TV" and "at"...
But where does the "at" come from?
I cannot find anywhere that says "at " is an abbreviation for "atmosphere"?
Btw, I see we have "Saki " and H . H Munro again...... this was in a puzzle not all that long ago.

Hello, Elle!
Yes, it's a beautiful day here!
This is my take on 14
I think in Yorkshire the word "the" is often abbreviated to "t".
A tavern is a "bar".
A "t-bar" is used on ski slopes to carry skiers up to the top of the slopes.
11, a "salt" is a term for a seaman. "Main" is a term for the sea.
Hence "main course".
That's how I see it, anyway.
11d, apparently the setter is using the letters "at" as an abbreviation for "atmosphere", I think?
That's what I see, anyway.
"Saki" threw me for a while.
I had "Be a n" for runner, but then I saw the light.
"Ben" can be a Munro,

Update, Elle!
My Collins Dictionary gives "at" for "atmosphere", also "atm".

Hi, Rusty!
I am finally home again.
I had a brisk walk (it was cold) before the rain came!
I had been expecting it all day - even though it wasn't forecast.
The guys were up at Crystal Palace Park, erecting the crash barriers for the "timed" racing events over the May Bank holiday.
Thy had brought their dogs with them as usual.
Ah, thank you for the crossword explanations.
I have never heard of a T-bar lift?
But "Goin' t'match" should have rung a bell......
I'd looked in Chambers and Bradfords for justification for the abbreviation "at".......
Well done on finding it in Collins!
Now, what to have for dinner....I am hungry......

Hello, Elle!
Still great weather here, but I think we are due rain later and tomorrow.
Here is how to go uphill on the ski slopes using a t-bar.

Wikipedia has "at" in the definition of "atmosphere", too.
I had a kipper and chips for my tea!
Was very nice!

Good evening, Rusty!
Wow, that looked very scary!
I would never have dared to attempt a T-bar lift!
Have you been skiing?
Have you ever used a T-bar?
I have never indulged in what I would call "adventurous" sports....
I've played tennis, and table -tennis, rounders, netball, lacrosse, and done a fair bit of casual rowing in the Lake District.....
And that is about it!
Tennis being my favourite by far!
What about you? I know you've done a lot of cycling....
I had liver and bacon, and mashed potatoes......with onion gravy!

Hello, Elle!
It is not scary at all!
The T-bar is quite straightforward.
Much better than walking up the slopes.
Yes, cycling was my sport, and I also played football and basketball.
I did hill walking, too.
Cycling was by far the best, and also the toughest.
Great camaraderie on the bike.
It's a long time since I had liver and bacon.
Very nice!
Miss O and me are going to Pine Cone on Sunday.

Hi, Rusty!
Skiing was not for me - I believe in remaining firmly at the bottom!
I do not like anything involving heights!
I used to do a lot of walking, and climbing the odd mountain, in the Lake District ....but I was always terrified of coming down....!
When I was "brave enough to admit to being frightened" of heights, I then only walked / hiked on the flat !
(Well, okay, up and down minor hills!)
The Pine Cone on Sunday will be good!
I don't know what our plans are for the weekend......
I missed an earlier phone call from my daughter, so I do not know what she has in mind?
I want to watch the tennis on Court One on Sunday though!

I always struggle with coming down too, elle. I can improve your "ups" with fitness, but I've never worked out how to improve my "downs". Also, if I overstride, my calves are stiff for days afterwards.
