Hello Elle,

My enquiry about Skyewalker was purely out of curiosity since I
did not notice his taking part in either Clueless or Peer Review recently - mind you neither did I for the past 10 days or so!
I was just being nosy!

It is so dull that, even though we are an hour ahead of you and thus
enjoy day light until gone 5.30pm, I actually closed my shutters
around 4.15 pm today! Very low ceiling out there.
I have now lit all my little candles in their various holders and it
makes the room look very cheerful! (just dish-warmer candles if you
know what I mean).
I love candles - remnants of my teenage year and hippy movements!

Hello Rosalind

I hope you enjoyed my very short story. I was intending to just put a clue on, but then the thought of a story came to me and lots of ideas suddenly entered my head. I had to do it very quickly, so it is certainly not polished, and there are many possible improvements.

I have written quite few, thank you for asking. They are mostly based on my experiences. The ones I have enjoyed most are where there is a mis-understanding based on one person's limited English. They sometimes involve "Edge Hill" situations that you brought to my attention.

I have never sought to have any published. I enjoy telling them to my friends and my female ones seem to particularly like them. I would like to write one based on crosswords. I have got some ideas. It may have already been done and I would have to research that.

The game you mentioned was the one we called "bob apple", and "duck apple" was trying to get your teeth into an apple in a washing-up bowl of water. I imagine you did the same. Happy memories.

I hope you did not eat too may sweets!

Hello, Elle!
I prefer Amazon and eBay to my library, too.
Your book clearing is akin to painting the Forth Bridge!
It will go on for ever
I do not think much of 18d if that is what the clue means.
Must try harder, Mr Setter!
My friends from Norn Iron have landed.
They were on an early boat from Belfast.
They are now in Edinburgh.
They are booked on the spooky underground tour of Old Edinburgh shortly.
I think it is supposed to be very good!
They told me they were in a restaurant in Chambers Street and I told them who the street was named after.
Sir William Chambers, one of the brothers of Dictionary fame.
They like Edinburgh!

Hello Pigale

I noticed that you did not take part in Clueless, you had a good idea, but it is hard to develop when you are not well. I never enter as I work on Tuesdays and when I look at it, lots of good ideas have been clued.

I see that you mentioned a time difference. I am guessing you are in France from your name, which reminds me of the time I was in Paris many years ago.

Pigale- skyewalker said he was having a two week holiday in Crete (with his daughter looking after Skye). We have chatted before about this, as it is one of my most favourite places. Or was.

I may have eaten a few sweets!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I rather fancy the image of myself battling on against an onslaught (a tide) of books.....just like the painters of the Forth Bridge have to go back to the beginning to start all over again!
I may be wrong about 18d, Rusty...that was only my interpretation of it....perhaps the compiler meant something more subtle that is eluding us both?
I hadn't realised that your Norn Iron friends were arriving today.
I knew that they would be here at the weekend, because you had mentioned that Miss L-B would be working then, and unable to come with you all to the Pine Cone.
I hope they are enjoying their time in Edinburgh?
I have a feeling , though I could be misremembering, that Lin and family went on the underground tour of Old Edinburgh, when she was over here from Spain.
Edinburgh is yet another place that I have never visited!
I am singularly untravelled!
(Is there such a word?)

Hi Ros, hope you are well;
I only enquired about Skyewalker out of curioisty really - I have not
seen his name pop up recently, that's all.
Glad he and his family are enjoying a holiday on Crete, with daughter
looking after Skye
Unfortunately I do not know Crete - shame!

Hello Jigjag,

I managed to enter some sort of a clue on Peer Review - we'll see, but that's the best my brain could manage this morning!

Yes, I live in France - Came back to my home land a number of years
ago now, basically because my parents were getting elderly; We
stayed here afterwards. I miss England in some ways, but I would
stand to lose too much in social benefit etc if I went to live abroad once more. And now that hubby has departed, I might as well
stay put ........
My close British friends have all bought some small property or
other in my village so we can still see each other regularly - isn't
that great?

Good evening, Elle!
18d just seems a bit odd, I felt.
Anyway it's past, so on we go!
I did not know the Norn Iron folks were arriving today, either.
I thought it would be tomorrow.
I'll text them soon, as I do not know if they are staying the night in Edinburgh or coming North.
My granddaughters have done the dungeons tour of Edinburgh and thought it was great!
I like Edinburgh and "untravelled" seems a fine word!
My son was here earlier and we had a nice chat and watched the snooker.

Hi, Rusty!
I am glad that you and your son enjoyed your usual Thursday chat!
Have you texted your friends yet?
Are they staying in Edinburgh tonight, or moving further north?
I only know Edinburgh through reading the Ian Rankin novels about John Rebus.
Rather like seeing Oxford, through the eyes of Inspector Morse!
Although I have actually been to Oxford!
Bill Bryson and I are doing fine with "Little Dribbling".
I have just been reading about his visit to ""The Ship" - a pub in Dunwich (Suffolk)
We have stayed several times in the house next door to "The Ship"!

Hello, Elle!
They are stopping in Edinburgh tonight.
Sent me pics of a musical evening in a pub.
Looks good! Think it's a folk music evening.
I would like that!
Funnily enough I am re-reading a Bryson book.
"One Summer. America 1927".
It's good!
President Coolidge seems to spend most of his time sleeping, according to Bill!
I was up at the post box just now.
It's cold outside!
