Could 8 ac be Weed, elle? Pocket size, wee (small), D area of snooker table, weed=pot.
Toolstation cheaper than Screwfix, but have said this before!

Rosalind... and fools seldom differ! I got Wee/pocket very quickly this morning, but 'rebadging' took ages. I'd never seen that before, but Chambers had!

I don't do that (or any) crossword, malone, but I saw weed when I read elle's post. I have heard of rebadging but didn't see that at all.
Wonder how many synonyms there are for cannabis?

Hello, Elle!
I like Screwfix!
The tradesmen use it, and that's a good sign, and very good prices.
I have not tackled the puzzle today, Elle, so I am little help to you.
Malone has been very helpful, though!
I like "weed", a fine clue.
For me, "leeward" is sailing away from the wind.
"Lee" means the sheltered side, away from the mind.
That's what I think.
Is it too late to 'phone your daughter?

Hello, Malone and Rosalind!
Thank you for your help - I should never have got either of those!
Quite beyond me!

Ros, Screwfix is not only just down the road, so to speak........it has parking!
A definite plus!

Hello, Rosalind!
You are correct!
I am after Hammerite Metal Paint and it is 28 pence cheaper at Toolstation, but....! Toolstation is farther away and it is much easier parking at Screwfix.

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I agree about Screwfix...and from our point of view, one big advantage is that it is on an industrial site.....and has free parking facilities!
This makes it an obvious choice!
Yes, that is just what I thought about "leeward" - I cannot see how it can be the answer......although it obviously is from the parsing of the clue...General Lee and all that.
Perhaps I misunderstood what was wanted....ah well!
I emailed my daughter to apologise for missing her call, and to explain where we had been.
She texted back........all are well and she will phone tomorrow!

Hello, Elle!
My Screwfix is the same.
Good parking and I am in and out in two shakes of a "?????" tail.
Now, something was niggling away in the back of my mind, and to that end, I have been exploring a "Glossary of Nautical Terms" and I found this...
"Coming to", means "Denotes the approach of a ship's head to the direction of the wind."
I am reluctant to think that is any help in understanding the setter's wordplay in that particular clue!
Good news that all is well with your family!

Elle,
I am wondering re "rebadging".
Weight Watchers has seemingly changed its name to "WW".
Would that be an example of "rebadging" or maybe "rebranding"?
