Hello, Elle!
I think the attrition rate for young ospreys is quite high.
Let's hope they make Africa, though!
Around here there are rowan berries everywhere on the ground after Storm Ali passed through.
I hope we have a mild winter!
I dislike black ice, for both walking and driving!

Hi, Rusty!
I have just been talking to my cousin...she had heavy rain earlier in the week, but this weekend has been lovely up there.
It seems to be mainly down south that has caught the torrential rain this last forty-eight hours.
Regarding the coming Winter......
I do not mind the cold temperature -wise, but I also fear the risks caused by snow and ice- and even heavy ground-frost if it makes the pavements slippery.
I have no objections though to wrapping up well, and striding out with the dog!
I enjoy a brisk invigorating walk!
You mentioned watching the golf this evening.....
How is that going?

Hello, Elle!
I do not mind the cold weather, too.
But I dislike ice!
Yes, I like a brisk walk on a frosty morning.
Now, the golf!
It is going very well for Tiger Woods!
He has a 4 shot lead at present and looks like he could win.
If so, it will be his first win in several years after several back operations and trying to find his game again.
And a great boost to the USA ahead of the Ryder Cup next week!
But he has a few holes to play yet.

A Very Good morning to you, Rusty!
Just home from my walk!
It is a beautiful morning, with bright blue skies and sunshine.
Astounding after the weekend's unending rain!
But strikingly chilly though.
Only 5C.
I think Winter is upon us!
How did your golf finish?
Did Tiger Woods win?

Good morning, Elle!
Just home, too!
Great day here but a chill in the air.
No frost though.
Yes, Tiger won.
First win in five years!
I have never seen anything like it.
An enormous crowd followed him up the last fairway.
Like the old days of Arnie's (Palmer) Army!
Great boost for USA ahead of the Ryder Cup this week!

Hi, Rusty!
Tiger Woods did very well!
I am sure that I had read somewhere that he was "past his prime", and was no longer likely to win any major championship?
I surely did not "dream" that?
I have finished today's crossword....
I especially liked 14a; 3d; and 28a...plus the two Latin answers for 17d and 20d.
(At last some justification for Latin's being my favourite subject at school!)
I had never heard of 1d........although I gained an answer from the crossers ...but had to look up the word to check its authenticity.
6d was a new phrase for me.... did you know it?
It is still cold...but we are promised the temp will reach 15C by late afternoon!

Hello, Elle!
I was one of those who said Tiger was finished.
Many did.
We were wrong!
So, you did not "dream" that!
He had several back operations, and personal problems to overcome, and he seems to have done it.
Yesterday's event was not a Major, but most of the top players were there.
It was a remarkable comeback.
Not quite up there with Ben Hogan's comeback, I don't think, but not far off!
And I am not, and never was, a fan of Tiger's.
6d, is a quite well known phrase, Elle.
No, I never heard of 1d, but Anne B had.
She had "Pollyanna", too!
It is a great day here, too.

Hi, Rusty!
Ah, Pollyanna!
I am a great believer in Pollyanna's "Glad" game......
I think more of us should adopt her policy of finding something to "be glad about" in our daily lives!
Maybe I will make it a New Year's Resolution?
Yes, it glorious out now......
We are just going out for a walk with the dog!

Hello, Elle!
Great day for a walk!
I am "glad about" opening my eyes every morning!
My book, "New York" has arrived.
A spelling mistake on Page 1! "pricipal"!
"Principal" surely!
So, not a very promising start.
I have read several pages, and this author is no Michener!
I can not see me getting very far with this book, but I'll persevere for a bit.

I've just come across an amusing example of the way in which language evolves. "Fine-tooth comb" morphed into "fine tooth-comb", which allowed the writer of the book I'm reading (mostly better written than this) could say "The police will have been over every inch of the ground with a toothcomb"!
