Although we have some beautiful countryside nearby in Kent, but that does mean a drive out.

Yes, we're happy with "revolving door" meaning a short term employment change........
That was never in doubt!
It is the fact that "revolving " only appears in the answer.....and not in clue that is causing the hiccough!

Have you ever tried to reverse through a revolving door ? It's impossible :)

The problem, JG, is that "rood "/ cross needs to be reversed to make "door"...…..there is no instruction for such until you have the answer…..
Why is the instruction to "reverse" only seen in the answer and not in the clue?
I am perhaps not explaining myself very well....

Inishowen is the Northernmost part of Ireland although it is not in Northern Ireland.
My family are from the part known as The Rosses, including Carrickfinn.
The Rosses is part of the Gaeltacht, the Irish speaking part.
Actually there are complaints about the Open going to Ballyliffin because it is so remote.
Well, Donegal is remote! They knew that before they picked it!
Scenery is tremendous.
The Wild Atlantic Way runs all the way down to Cork.

Forget about cross meaning rood. That is nothing to do with this clue.
The 'cross' in this clue refers to the crossing of us through the door.
The revolving door is making us cross into the hall, as we have no option but to do so. ..... we cannot go back.

The revolving door clue is the kind of clue that was very common 50 years ago in The Times.
Quite a few of this type in every Times crossword.
But thankfully they have evolved into the modern cryptic ones.
"Revolving door" is a throwback to the old days.

The word 'cross' in this clue is a verb - to cross i.e. cross the road
and nothing to do with cross/rood

I think I shall bow out gracefully here...and admit this is all beyond me!
If I carry on trying to fight my corner. we'll be here all night!
And we may never know what the compiler intended!
