Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I had already tackled 16a and had come to the same conclusion as you,.
Obviously there is an error there?
I t would appear to be an anagram of "player is" but there is a superfluous "i" and a missing "a"?
Maybe it should read "player as"?
(Although I am not sure if that would then make sense?)
I have finished the puzzle now...and especially liked 10a; 18a; 4d and 7d!
No ,fortunately, I remain "unbewildered" today!
The house next door has been sold!
Although, as it is all in the hands of a solicitor, we do not as yet know to whom!

Rusty, it's fine - and although I am not male, I also do not consider myself a lady. The words 'woman' and 'female' are perfectly fine! Until someone starts telling me they have seen a 'gentleman doctor', I would ban phrases such as 'lady doctor'.

PS. I forgot to say that I too liked Monkman on University Challenge. I always like people who show so much interest and enthusiasm.

Hello, Elle!
Well done!
Yes, "player as" is what's needed.
Mr Rogan must have been sleeping to let that one blow by him.
Yes, 18a is a good one!
I am sure your new neighbours will be revealed soon!
Wait for a wee while, then knock on the door to introduce yourselves.
And don't be too nosey.... to begin with!

Hello, Malone,
I agree about the "lady doctor" bit.
At the practice I go to, the "lady doctors" outnumber the "gentleman doctors"!

"Nosey", Rusty?
Who.......me?
Oh, I think it will be a while before anyone moves in........
All that has happened so far is a board outside, saying the house is "Sold".
It has been somewhat neglected over the years and will need a lot doing to it before it is up to standard.
It may be that the purchaser prefers to have it all "done up", before living in it.......or, of course, he /she /they may be young and enthusiastic and "camp out" there, whilst renovating it.
What we - and the neighbours on the other side - are hoping is that the house has not been bought by builders for the purpose of "conversion" to flats.
These are big old houses ......and that is a distinct possibility.
It would be nice if it just became a 'single - family' home, as it has always been.

Hello, Elle!
Let us hope you get the neighbours that you hope for.
Most of mine are fine, but you can get folk you can see far enough.
How is your wonky toe getting on?

Hi, Rusty!
Regarding neighbours......
We are very lucky in that there is a nucleus of us (in our street) who have lived here for a long time, and we are all friendly and on very good terms.
Furthermore, it is good that there is always someone to count on in an emergency, say, before family could arrive.
We are all appreciative of that aspect.
Now....my toe?
I am pleased to say that it seems to be (more-or-less) recovered!
I am hoping that the (excruciatingly) painful experience was but a one-off!
Thank you for asking!
How is your filling holding out?

Hello, Elle!
You are fortunate with your neighbours!
Sounds like you had a gouty toe.
Good that it has recovered, though I think you should keep the football to a minimum.
My filling seems OK.
I had a banana for my tea, though.
I was having a look at the TV schedules and you will be pleased to know the US Open Tennis is on Eurosport next week, live.

Hi, Rusty!
Ah, I hadn't realise it was the US Open Tennis next week......
It will be good to have that to watch.
Yes, I shall be thankful for EuroSport Player, as I doubt it will be covered by the BBC?
I do not as yet have next week's TV guide, so cannot check that out.
There is a fair bit of Athletics still to come over the next few weeks, too!
It is easier for me when sport is covered on the television though...as then I can always record it if necessary.
It has started to rain here.

Hello, Elle!
Just wondering if ITV4 will show it?
They covered Roland Garros.
I'll have a look tomorrow.
It is not on BBC, and I do not think it is on Red Button.
It is on Eurosport immediately after the Tour of Spain coverage.
The nights are drawing in here, and there is a haar came in from sea.
Be on the chilly side outside!

Hi, Rusty!
It would be great were the tennis showing on ITV4!
I could watch it sitting on the sofa with my feet up!
That beats sitting on the swivel chair watching it on the desktop!
According to the news on the computer, we should be in for a warm and humid (ugh!) spell here over the next few days.
I do hope not!
But it is definitely not chilly outside...I have just been in the garden with the dog, and it is very mild.
An early walk tomorrow, followed by a visit to the crematorium!
