I am sorry for the delay in replying...........
We have had a minor disaster on our hands!
Some time ago we had a run of "bad" light bulbs exploding.... do you remember?
Not much damage was done then at the time, as fortunately said bad bulbs were all placed within "uplighter" shades......and the shattered glass was thus contained.
Well, we thought that we had removed all the faulty bulbs but, somehow or other, one escaped our vigilance...and tonight it has exploded!
All over everywhere....in a guest bedroom....and not within an uplighter!
What a mess we have had to clear up........
The poor animals had to be contained within another room whilst we came and went, lest they cut themselves.......
We have shaken, we have swept, we have hoovered..........all is rendered "safe" now, but what a hectic spring-cleaning effort!
Thank you for checking on "Shakespeare" volumes for me.
World of Books are good........I shall look into that later.

***To anyone else reading this, I must stress , do check your light bulbs!
Our electrician told us that there are a great number of these faulty bulbs out there!***

I have just read about the light bulb incident. Very sorry but at least everyone is safe.
I remember (and I just checked also) that in 2015 you bought in bulk (100) via a website called energybulbs.co.uk so just a warning for anyone seeing this to avoid them like the plague. Always buy from a known electrician or from an electrical store that has a good reputation. Stay safe and have a good day.

Just a thought.... even if the light bulb was a good make, it could still shatter if not correctly fitted, i.e. resist the urge to screw the bulb in too tightly... just enough for the bayonet end to make good contact is all that is needed. I had one bulb that shot across the room when it was spent and the metal still remained in the fitting . I had to use pincers to remove the metal bayonet ! Hope today goes well for you

It is kind of you to be concerned , but I must hasten to put the record straight here.
We had NO trouble whatsoever with the light bulbs bought in bulk from energybulbs.co.uk.
These served us, and family and friends, very well, and we were very pleased with their quality.
I would have hate for the firm's reputation to be so unfairly maligned.
Our problems with light bulbs only started when that supply ran out.......and we bought from a local supermarket.......!!!
And incidentally, they are bayonet bulbs - not a screw fitment.


**I would endorse though what Jazzgirl has said in that it is sensible to buy from a known electrician or reputable electrical shop.
I shall not be buying any more light bulbs from supermarkets!**

Thanks Elle. I had assumed that you had not used 100 bulbs in so short a time, so my error in that case. The bayonet type till have to be turned (screwed) securely but not too tightly.

I think I'll get my coat, as I may have got my bayonets and my screws the wrong way round. The one that flew across the room was a screw type ! The ones in the bedside lamps are bayonet

I have heard her name....and something makes me think that Wilkie Collins based one of his books about her story?
Do you know of this...or have I "dreamt" it?
I did look up Shakespeare on Amazon but couldn't find any bargains?
I'll check again later...this does sometime happen, doesn't it?
It can be there one minute...and gone the next!

I had the same experience of a spent lightbulb whizzing across the room and needing the pliers to remove the metal "stump" bit.
Could be scary!
Now, I notice I have a programme recorded in my planner.
It was on BBC2 Scotland recently.
"Ireland's Wild River:The Mighty Shannon".
It was filmed by Colin Stafford-Johnson.
I have not watched it yet, but it is high up on my "to do" list!
