Hello, Elle!
It is a bit difficult trying to explain the bets.
There are loads of different ones, trebles, accumulators, Yankees.
And they are best steered clear of.
The bookies have umpteen ways of relieving you of your money!
Tomorrow for instance, I doubt I will have a bet, but I am looking forward to seeing Douvan running.
He is pretty special.
One of my very favourite horses was Mad Moose.
He was a cracker.
He refused to race.
When the tapes went up he planted his feet and did not move.
Sometimes, though, he would run as far as the first fence, then stop.
I think he probably got banned eventually.
But I thought it hilarious.
The jockey would get very excited but Mad Moose never turned a hair!
He had a fan club.
I am fairly sure the winds have eased.

We have a lovely day here - warm and sunny.
We shall soon be breaking our morning walk in half ........to sit for a while in the sunshine!
I have a busy day ahead - two loads of washing to sort out .....time to unveil the Hill's Hoist for Summer, I think!
And then off in an hour to meet my daughter.
No time till later, for the crosswords.
Your painter is back again today, isn't he?
I hope the racing goes well.....
I have heard of Douvan - isn't he a favourite to win the Queen Mother Champion Chase? ( do I have that right?)
I like the sound of Mad Moose!
My mother used to tell the tale that the only time she backed a horse , it ran the wrong way!
I was never very sure whether or not to believe her.........!

She is looking well.

Yes, Douvan is a mighty horse.
A wee story!
Willie Mullins' head stable lass for years was Gail Carlisle.
Gail left the stable last year to take up a new job in the USA.
She flew in from New York last night to see Douvan run today.
Good to see her again!
These girls get very attached to the horses!

Good afternoon, Rusty!
What a glorious day it is!
Warm enough to be out without a coat!
My daughter and I had a great time together.........altho YB slept through it all!
He had exhausted himself earlier at Baby Sensory class - and didn't even know that he had lunch with his grandmother!!
I was somewhat disappointed, as I had anticipated spending quality time with him! but hey, these things happen..........
He needed his sleep....... and we shall see the whole family on Sunday.
My husband and dog are gainfully employed in the garden!
My husband is weeding the flowerbeds.....the dog is making sure that next door's foxes do not go to sleep!
How did your racing go?
Did Douvan do well?

Douvan ran poorly and finished down the field.
Willie thinks they will find something physically wrong with him.
Such is racing, and why I advise against betting!

Poor Douvan! I hope there is nothing seriously amiss with him.
Maybe there will be a report on his condition tomorrow?
My daughter announced soon after we met up, that she had purchased a jacket online late last night, so no longer needed to search for one .
She tells me it is 'black and lightweight'.......not very descriptive , but I shall soon see it for myself.
Instead we looked for school shoes for BB, who is on the point of out growing his present ones.
And then we ate!! I had pizza, and she had pasta!
I am now going to play catch up...I have recorded both "Eggheads" and "15 to 1, so will watch those..........

Willie says he is lame behind, and will get an MRI scan to pinpoint the problem.
During the race both AP and Nina said he did not look right.
Have not heard what Ruby said about him, but if Ruby felt something amiss he would have pulled him up.
That was a fine day out you had!

I have just read on the computer that a punter lost half a million pound bet on Douvan!
Can you credit that anyone would be so foolhardy?
( I shall stick to my day job!)
I watched a part of "15 to 1", but had forgotten that I had set the recorder earlier for a George Clooney film - "The Descendants" - that I had wanted to watch.
So I gave precedence to that.
Instead, I have just completed the Times QC, but do not have the energy to face the 15 x15 tonight!
I am going to read.......

I read that a ring bookie took £375,000 from one punter who backed Douvan.
Yes, I can credit such foolishness.
It happens from time to time.
There are idiotic folk going about!
Remember my mantra?
"Gambling is a mug's game".
And on that note may I say I have chosen one horse tomorrow, Nichols Canyon, in the Stayers Hurdle, each way at 11-1.
And I do not have half a million on!
I have not heard of that film?

Ah, now...... an each way bet means either the horse wins or it is placed in the first two/ three?
I can well understand that it makes watching the race more exciting to have a "small" bet on....we found that on the one occasion we went to Ascot.
But I would never bet "serious" money!
Why did you pick Nichols Canyon?
Is he being ridden or owned by someone whom you hold in esteem?
I don't know much about "The Descendants".......I saw a trailer some years back (I think the film came out in 2102) and thought it seemed interesting.
And I do like George Clooney!!
I shall look forward to watching it !
