Hi, Rusty!
If your grandson comes with you to see La La Land , then he should be able to get a student discount - he will know all about that, I am sure.
No, I am staying away from the Radio 5 transmission and am going to watch the Men's Final match on the television on BBC 2 at 1 o'clock!
It is much more rewarding seeing it, than just listening to it!
I watched the Serena v Venus match today.
It was very good!
I had thought from hearing the result - Serena's winning in two straight sets - that it was perhaps an easy match.......but not so!
Venus played extremely well!
I just have to keep from hearing the result tomorrow until after I have watched Roger and Rafa play....!

Hello, Elle!
It is noticeable how more muscular Serena is compared with Venus.
She is like a boxer.
I am not sure if my grandson will come or not.
I hear there is a young lady on his horizon.
We shall see.
I look upon it as an adventure!
An evening out with the young ones!
You will do well to not hear the tennis result!
John McEnroe says they are the two best players to have played the game.
I thought Rod Laver would be up there, but I think Federer is the best I have seen, now.

Good morning, Rusty!
We are just back from our walk.
It is fine at the moment, although we are forecast rain from 11am through till midnight.
Warmer though.
I am gearing myself up with coffee, and an apple to do the Everyman crossword!
You, I expect, are watching the tennis this morning?
( I am still hanging on till the BBC highlights at 1pm)
Any plans for later?

Good morning, Elle!
Beautiful day here, but I hear the roads etc are bad with black ice.
I have not ventured out yet.
May pop over to ASDA.
I have run out of Mullerices!
I have the tennis and the skiing on!
Mainly the tennis, though.
Hope you get through the morning not knowing how the tennis is going!

Hi, Rusty!
I am sitting here, thinking of you watching the tennis!
I am not sure how long my will-power is going to hold out.....!
I have finished the Everyman, all bar the parsing for one.........
Plus another where I am suspecting there may be a misprint in the clue?
Either that, or I am missing something?
20a: Clue reads:
Wife pounds clothing in huge pails , badly short of energy and detergent (7-2, 6)
The answer is "washing -up liquid"
But I think the clue should read "Wives pound" , and not "wife pounds" for it to parse correctly?
My logic is: washing -up liquid = detergent (def)
w - wives
quid - pound around (clothing)
anagram of " in hug(e) pails"
What do you think?
It make sense to me? or have I gone wrong?
( I'm still working on the other one that I cannot parse!)

Hello, Elle,
I think you are correct.
Makes more sense your way.
I have not scrutinised it thoroughly but your parse seems better to fit the clue.
Just you hold out.
You are in for a treat regarding the tennis!

Hi, Rusty!
So you think I am right about 20a?
I cannot parse it otherwise?
Only an hour to go!
Oh dear!
Is the match over?
I am reading!
I daren't put on the radio or the television!
I need a strong coffee..........

Hello, Elle,
Yes, your parse is correct.
The match is over.
Still a great day here.
Meant to be less cold this week.

w (wife)
pounds - quid (Chambers shows plural of quid as quid)
anagram - in hug(e) pails
