Hello, Elle,
I think I follow, but I have never had Freeview or a Freeview digibox, so I have no advice to give.
I have a Skybox, but I only use it for very simple things.
The answer to your query will be on Google.
Why not Google your problem, or put it on YouTube?

Sorry, Elle, I've been out all day. Our tv does have Freeview built in, but from the very beginning we linked the tv to the Freeview recorder and it's always worked perfectly.

Good afternoon, Rusty!
You have been brilliantly helpful, thank you!
I have looked at all the relevant references/ websites that you have suggested and have put forth (by email) a few tentative ideas to my daughter!
She will hopefully get chance to look at them later .
With luck, we will go to the shop on Sunday and see for ourselves, "in the flesh" so to speak.
I couldn't really find an answer to my previous question although I did try Googling!
Anyway, I'm sorry that I haven't asked how you are feeling today?
Have you seen your GP yet?
You did say that you were going there this week?

Elle, my last reply was very quick and maybe not terribly helpful.

I think ALL televisions now have Freeview built into them. If you bought a new tv and simply connected it to your aerial, you would be able to access Freeview channels. Our set is connected to the Freeview recorder (which is connected to the aerial) so the Freeview channels we watch are supplied from the recorder - and this means recording is simple. We do have the option of switching the TV to 'Smart' mode, but we have done that only once. My son thinks this is silly - we could be watching the I-player on the tv, but I stick with my tried and trusted laptop. I've also no wish to view the photos, from my camera and my phone, on a 32 inch-screen - another 'benefit' from Smart TVs.

Hello, Elle,
Thank you for your kind words!
That's the ticket, get your daughter involved!
And Malone knows much more than I do.
Before you go to the store you can find out if they have it in stock at the branch you are going to.
It is quite straightforward to do.
I am not too bad.
I changed appointment and am seeing the Jeep on Friday.
My daughter-in-law nagged me!
I was out for a walk but cut it short.
It was helluva windy and hail pinging off my face, so enough was enough!

Hello, Malone!
Thank you for your longer answer - I read both at the same time so no problem anyway!
Yes, I think I understand what you are saying........
In effect, you are bypassing the Freeview within in the TV, by connecting the TV directly to the Freeview ( recorder) Digibox, which in turn is connected to the aerial?
You then watch the programmes through the Freeview digibox? (rather than through the TV itself?)
Have I got this right?

As far as I can tell (access is difficult, jammed in a corner) this is how our present TV and Freeview box are connected with the aerial.

Ok, if I have ...considering a new TV.....what would happen if you had it the other way round?
If you had the TV connected to the aerial instead of the digibox being so, and the digibox simply plugged into the television?
Would you then have two lots of "Freeview" on the go?
Would they work or would they clash?
or am I talking a load of nonsense?

You will have gathered that my husband is not technically minded and is of no help whatsoever here! I am floundering!
I think I have probably exhausted Rusty! he has been so kind.

Hi, Rusty!
Your post must have arrived whilst I was bending Malone's ear in response to his earlier message, as it wasn't there before I started typing.
I hope I have grasped what he was saying.......I've also tried for more clarity within my head!
It is good that your daughter-in -law nagged you!
You should really have gone to see your GP last week when you started feeling unwell?
Be sure to tell him "everything" (all your symptoms) when you see him on Friday.
We have no wind here, and the rain has held off - going dark now...
I 've had to wait in for a pet food delivery, so no second walk this afternoon.
Your weather sounds terrible.
What happened when the lorry was blown off the bridge this morning?
Were many people hurt?

Hello, Elle!
The lorry should not have been on the bridge.
The idiot driving it went against all the signs telling him lorries were not allowed to cross because of the wind.
He drove onto the bridge and the wind blew his lorry over.
Both carriageways were blocked and a great deal of damage to the central reservation.
Nobody hurt though.
The subsequent closure has caused chaos across Central Scotland.
The Forth Crossing is very busy indeed.
The driver has been arrested and charged with dangerous driving.
And rightly so!

Elle, glad I helped, even a little bit. I don't think your alternative plan - of connections - would work, but that is only because it's not the recommended set-up advised in the manuals! I decided that I'd work on a 'need to know' basis - and I need to know very little. Part of me gets slightly irked when I think that I have paid for functions, options, that I'm never going to use - but the simpler, less technologically able TV that I'd like doesn't seem to exist any more.

PS We bought our TV in John Lewis because they give a longer guarantee, at no extra cost.

Hi, Rusty!
I hadn't realised that the lorry driver had deliberately contravened safety regulations!
It is indeed fortunate that no one suffered serious injury as a result of such irresponsible behaviour.
He well deserves to be arrested!
I haven't even done one of my three crosswords today!
I just haven't had the time in between doing a load of household jobs that were outstanding, and my "research" into TVs and tables!
I may try to fit in the QC before Eggheads starts.
How about you?
Was the 15 x15 a good one today?
Mr R seems to be keeping his head well down?

Hello again, Malone!
Thank you again for your help!
I think I know what to do now!
Why though it is necessary for everything to be so complicated......?
