@ Rusty, couldn't help but notice your comment on the cycling. Has Tommy Voeckler pulled out of the Tour then? It wouldnt be the same without him! Should be a good contest this year, there's 5 or 6 who could win it. Chris Froome's looking good after his Criterium win.

Ah yes it's extra-mountainous this year, and Tommy is still in, I think! He's a very popular rider in France with that very distinctive climbing style, jaw jutting out, cranking over the big gears. Quite a tactician as well!
Think Quintana could be in with a shot, too. Him and Valverde on the same team! Might even have a bet on him, going to see what odds I can get!

@ chrise: btw I've just bought a book of Bunthorne puzzles from Amazon for £2.80! Great price for (I think) 100 crosswords.

Lovely out - not too hot today, just a light breeze.
We've been through the woods , across the fields, and over to the river. The dog's favourite walk! She likes a plodge in the water! it's deep enough for her to swim too in parts where the river bottom has fallen away.
I have just discovered the origin of the nursery rhyme "The Grand Old Duke of York"!
I never realised that it came from an incident in the First World War!
Cassel was the place where the Grand Old Duke of York, who had ten thousand men, "marched them up to the top of the hill, then marched them down again"
Seemingly, he had no choice but to do that as no other route was available!
But you will know this, having read "1914..." yourself.
(I add the explanation for anyone else reading this!)
