We've had our Maytag washer since 1980; it has survived four children and was used at least once a day for many years. I did replace the water pump once (myself) and the timer chain, but it still works perfectly.

Regarding Boys' Town: I knew someone in college who had been orphaned at an early age and lived there till he went off to school. He seemed to have fond memories of it.

I've also tried to find out about the possible canonisation - it seems that Father Flanagan has got to a certain point in the process, but that now two miracles must be proved before he can be canonised?
Have I got that right?

Evening everyone,

I feel like I have just come back from a journey in the Middle Ages!

After some bad road accident, the whole village (and probably surroundings) had no power for nearly 3 hours, hence no TV /DVD, no Internet hence no Skype, no kettle for coffee, fridge starting to defrost with this heat and no ceiling fan either !!! All this with an outdoor temp of 35 plus.

Makes you wonder how did people manage without the things we so much take for granted?

Rusty, I've been trying all evening to remember who it was that Bing Crosby portrayed in another film about a young priest......(didn't want to give in and google it!)
I've finally got it! as far as I am aware, it was an entirely fictitious character, called Father Chuck O'Malley!
The film was "Going My Way"
There was a sequel, too, but that hasn't come to me yet.....

Now, re Bing......I was brought up listening to Bing! My Dad was a keen fan and played Bing songs repeatedly.
I've got loads of old 78s that I still play !
Bing, Karen Carpenter and Katie Melua are my all time favourites!

I am not sure about the miracles.
There have been several boxes of stuff sent to Rome.
I like Bing and Dean Martin for ballads, Pete Seeger, Don Williams, Dwight Yoakam, and I think Elvis had a great voice, but often a poor choice of songs, and certainly dreadful films. His career could have been a lot better. I do not know Katie Melua.
There are a few lady singers I like. Emmylou Harris, Joan Baez, Enya, Faith Hill.
My favourite composers are Verdi and Vivaldi.
Folk music is my favourite, and light classical.
