Hi, Pigale!
According to the BBC weather report for our locality , it is not going to reach 28C until next Wednesday and then will only last for two days! but of course all could change before then!
Personally, I prefer the temp to stay below 24C; I don't like the heat, especially if it's humid ( drains me of energy and makes my hair curl!)
I know a lot of people don't like grey squirrels but 'ours' are sweet - they knock on the kitchen window to tell us they are there!

Humidity only makes heat uncomfortable and it also is a forwarning sign of impending thunderstorms - Stupidely I am petrified of them; I know a lot of people think they are beautiful to watch but if we have a real strong one, I end up in one tiny cupboard- like room in the basement, because there is no window and I can't see the lightening!

Don't laugh, I truly am scared!

I do agree that grey squirrels are beautiful and they certainly looked very tame in Richmond, with everyone feeding them! I was told that they had driven all red squirrels out of most parts of England - Why is that ? ~Are they more damaging to cultures?

I think that some people over state the grey squirrels part in the demise of the red squirrel as part of it is mans passion for cutting down native trees and planting foreign species.the red loves pine and fir.Our squirrels sit on the fence baiting the dogs who fall for it everytime they like the fact we have lots of trees .They are making a small copse of Hazel as the bury the buts and forget to unearth them Today is just right warm and dry Having lived in India with temps at 40+ 20+ is just right

pigale: I am just about to make lunch, but I just popped in and see that you have visited Richmond Park. It is one of my favourite places and I walk there most weekends. When we had dogs, they used to love swimming in Pen Ponds. But now I just enjoy photographing wildlife, mainly the deer but also butterflies, dragonflies and any other creatures that appear including snakes !

Jazzy, I follow you with the4 deers, butterflies etc but do not even mention snakes to me!

Unfortunately I only had a 'quick drive' through a small part of the Park - was staying with friends who lived very close to Richmond Hill and we just drove through on our way home from I can't remember where - it is many years ago.

My husband livred and worked in Kew for a few years, and I believe Kew Gardens are quite nice too. Have you been there?

We've always had grey squirrels in my neighborhood (in Massachusetts), but red ones have recently made inroads, and although the reds are half their size the greys flee from them in terror- vicious little things.

Hi Arisrophanes, I believe that the grey squirrels in England were in fact imported from the States - but perhaps I am wrong, and don't really know why that should have been!

The red ones rarely become as tame as the grey ones I think.

And we got your starlings. No question about who came out ahead.

Mr A - do you mean someone deliberately imported starlings? Or did they just hang on to the ropes as it were. One round here used to imitate the sound of a trim phone exactly. I used to race indoors and realised it was him/her, again.

The Squirrels were introduce from North America by the Victorians who seemed to think that they were exotic an added interest on their estates and of course they spread out.The Victorians brought in a lot of plants too
