Hello, Jolan. I'm a bit rusty. I see 2, 3, and 5, and will think about the others while going about my chores.

Just missing the first one. Perhaps the buzz of my radial arm saw will inspire me. The whir of the drill press was helpful.

Site access has gotten even worse during my absence. Most frustrating when you solve all the clues and can't post.

Maybe fish is good for the brain, as I now also have #3 but I had to check with Chambers to make sure!

I've got them all (I THINK the first one's right), but wasn't able to get onto the site for an hour and a half or so. Will try at 5, but I'm seldom successful.

Thanks for these, Jolan. Rushed today, but an unqualified delight as usual.
Here is my stab at them.
1. A sound step dancer (7) – ASTAIRE? (Sounds like a step - a stair- Fred Astaire was a dancer)

2. Risk all on one play or film with everything going (5,3,5)- SHOOT THE WORKS (Film – shoot , “everything going” – the works. This gives “shoot the works" which means “Risk all on one play”.)

3. Drug preparation to help suffocating pet has no lasting effect (3,2)- HOP UP? (Subtractive anagram with “preparation to” the anagrind. “help suffocating pet” without “lasting effect” gives “hop up” – to drug)

4. Nozzles for a blast of air are precious to the Royal Society (6)- TWEERS? (Precious – twee, with RS – Royal Society, gives tweers, nozzles in furnaces for blasts of air)

5. Muhammad Ali supports faults of character not apparent at first (4,2,4)- FEET OF CLAY? (Muhammad Ali was originally known as Cassius Clay. His "supports" would thus be “feet of Clay”, - “faults of character not apparent at first”)
Thanks again.

Great clues as always- I had a bit of time to look today and I think my mind was on the right wavelength I think.
Here are my suggestions:
1. A sound step dancer (7) ASTAIRE. A step is a stair which sounds like Astaire.

2. Risk all on one play or film with everything going (5,3,5) SHOOT THE WORKS. Risk all on one play is definition. Film=shoot + everything going= the works

3. Drug preparation to help suffocating pet has no lasting effect (3,2) HOP UP. A Jolan special! Subtractive anagram. Drug is definition. Wordplay is an anagram of help suffocating pet (less lasting effect).

4. Nozzles for a blast of air are precious to the Royal Society (6) TWEERS. Nozzles-definition. Precious = Twee + RS (Royal Society)

5. Muhammad Ali supports faults of character not apparent at first (4,2,4) FEET OF CLAY. A pun M Ali’s (Cassius Clay as was) supports would be his feet. Def- Faults of character not appreciated at first.
