Once again I'm amazed at the ability of people here to come up with such a wide variety of clues.
A lot contenders as usual but I've just about managed to pick out a 1,2.3.

Anyway bronze medal to paul @33 loved CH device (nobody tried hot/cold , central heating etc.?) def. very good nice read.
Silver for ixion @ nice misdirection with the def and clever wordplay - I just think I would have solved it straight away without the "penny-drop" of the winner-
