WE ought to pool ours, andy - I have the other two!

How was golf? We postponed ours until tomorrow because of the forecast, but it has been mostly fine - I had to garden instead (oh dear............)

It's a pity we can't Chris. I have got plenty of four letter words for the last one but can't parse any properly. The golf was "cold" and windy...duly reflected in my play I'm afraid...I lost and had to buy the coffee.

I have one which looks like something from Wales. Ha ha. I have often wondered but it might spoil it if people went off-site and helped each other by e.mail!

Thanks for these brainstretchers, Jolan.
You always manage to puzzle and delight.
Here is my stab at today's clues.

1. Flier longing to return after sentimentality shown by girlfriend (10)- GOONEYBIRD? – (Goo is sentimentality. Yen is longing. Reverse this and add “bird” old word for girlfriend to give Goo ney bird, a flier) [There was something familiar about this.... ]

2. Unreliable first lieutenant loses fleet on the way (2,8)- IN TRANSITU? (Unreliable is the anagrind for a subtractive anagram of “first lieutenant” which loses “fleet” to give “in transitu"- on the way)

3. Irrelevant pickpocket works best here (6,3,4)- BESIDE THE MARK? (Mark is a pickpocket’s word for the intended victim, so she or he would work best there. “Beside the mark” means irrelevant.)

4. They may gasp in awe at her withdrawal towards the windward side (1-7)- A WEATHER? (Hidden in clue, nautical phrase meaning “towards the windward side”)

5. Three awful cyberterrorist platitudes, each one following the first for emotional fervour (4)- HWYL? ( The second letters of each of the first four words are “each one following the first”. This spells out hwyl- an emotional fervour )

Enjoy your Easter break.
Thanks again.

Three (slight improvement on my usual offerings)

2. in transitu (subtractive anagram)
4. a-weather (hidden in clue)
5. hwyl (2nd letter of each of first four words)

My late husband would not have forgiven me for not knowing no.5 as he was from Llangeitho Ceredigion where his ancestor certainly stirred feelings amongst his congregation (Methodist hell-fire preacher)
Thanks jolan and have a lovely Easter x

Thanks again, jolan - my first attempt failed to post. I had A-WEATHER and HWYL (and BESIDE THE ????).

Have a good rest.

Hi Andy.
Thanks everyone for participating and well done Jazzy x. Liked the Andy/Chris cooperation :-)

Wow! ab. Dunno how you do it. I certainly couldn't. 5/5 as usual and no need for me to parse. (Just to add "hwyl" is defined in Chambers).

Have a wonderful Easter everybody. I actually need a few weeks off to recharge my crossie batteries.

Keep well. J
