Thanks to therogue and cheers for the mention (ouch! chris). It was a toss-up between the Cap'n and the Norwegian Blue (who remains firmly nailed to the perch).

I first came across Captain Flint in "Swallows and Amazons". It was some time later that I discovered where the name came from!
