We seem to treat more informal fish names differently too. We have a native fish here in New England that we always caught when we were children, back when children always caught fish, that we called a kivver, and one would never say "throw all the kivver back in"- even though we always threw them back in. :)

I wasn't expecting the discussion about fishy plurals. Where else, other than this forum? All I can say is that it sounded right to me.
