Any help please:

8d Climb or move with difficulty (8 letters)

surmount?

scramble?

Thanks for your help - it could be scramble but I have answered pearl? for gemstone giving me 'r' for final letter.

clamber?

Amber would give an E in that position.

Clamber looks good.
You don't give any placed letters.

The letters that I have got are: ?c?a?b?r - I know I have gone wrong somewhere - the answers I have got for the others are:
14 a Hid, found shelter = took cover?
25 a Parking device for a care = handbrake?

It looks as though it might be scramble then.
Without the crossword I can't see where the crossers are.
Would amber fit for the gemstone instead of pearl?
