I reckon 9 !

Elle, use a reference point say noon. Then you will arrive at 4.30 pm before the 5.00 pm departs. Likewise, the 7.00 am from Boston will have arrived before you depart but you will pass every train departing Boston from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm inclusive, 9.

I just thought about problem. It should be "5" Trip is 4 1/2 hours and since train is sent out every hour its basically dividing 1 into 4 1/2. Since it is at the "half" mark of the fourth hour, the train has alread been sent out from both so it should be 5
