Thanks to unclued, I've arrived at the overall flattened shape, but now I'm wondering whether the individual faces need to be delineated within that shape. The two-word instruction would suggest they don't, but to specify eight faces in the preamble suggests that they do. Any thoughts?
Carpox - I would say yes. I don't send in entries so I'm not too bothered. I have delineated 2 x 10 cells, 1 x 2 cells in the middle, 1 x 4 top right, 1 x 3 top centre and the 2 cells, 1 cell and 2 cells top left. Does anyone else have this?
I must say, even with Unclued's help, I'm still flummoxed.
I can't see the shapes formed from DARKSCREEN and PRESSFLATS, or see where the 'OW' that fits onto the end of the 12 letters of the title (row 2) comes from.
Thanks, unclued, and everyone who contributed - I think I'm there now. I think that this puzzle exemplifies the observation that the easier the grid filling, the more difficult the endgame - and the problem is often compounded by the necessary brevity of both the preamble and any concealed message.
Can anyone help? I too have a full grid and the messages, But I do not have any understanding of the meaning of DARK SCREEN or PRESS FLATS, or the net shape. I assume the net enclose the 'title' but? I am going on holiday first thing Weds so am keen to finish before then. Thanks in advance.
Jackdaw, see Chambers for the mathematical definition of net.
There are groups of letters in the grid which make up the letters in DARK SCREEN and PRESS FLATS.
