Thanks barista, will try to work it out from there.

I thought I had finished but I have a clash at the 6th letter of the piano-player which does not give me a choice of the letter I need. Hints appreciated

ozzy, if you are still around the 6th letter clash is at the last cell of 38A( a clash between 'a' and 'k'.)

We'll that was all fairly simple once the drawing was completed but not much sign of Taffy or Laird or anyone else - but am I right there is nothing to be highlighted or drawn - just write the eponym below the puzzle ?

mrcroft, the instructions don't ask for anything else.
But it seems odd that nobody has spotted any characters yet.
I can see one that starts at the 3rd cell of the fourth row, but there is a clash in the 6th letter of this name.
Just wondering if this is significant?

Thanks Nelson. I had Taser for 35d which I think can be justified by TA + ser(ies) + the definition, but I can see the correct answer now. Cheers

I originally parsed it that way,too..
Once I have an idea, I always find it very hard to shake it off and rethink.

after struggling all week, finally done, many thanks to all on this thread, cant find any of the three characters though.

I think there is a fairly good reason why you can't find any of the characters. You have got, I'm sure, the wrong drama. I've solved it and located them all.
