For once I have completed the grid except for two letters (assuming I am right so far of course). Please can someone help me with 34a? Clue is stands for light artillery badly balanced occupying place to west. 7 letters. I have ?a?dela. It could be a thematic answer without a definition but if it is I am not sure. I thought it would be a girl's name. How am I doing?

Your letters are correct, jogamel. This entry has to be treated the same way as 14d, and in accordance with the first three words in the perimeter. I've finished it except for the last vertical green cells two from the right.

I still can't see it, orson? I presume I am removing the same three letters I took from 14d. And do you mean the vertical between 5and6? I assumed up this was a man's name like the one between 2and3d.

The three letters are at the end, not the beginning.

Do you know, the light shone even as you were responding! Thank you so much.

Jogamel, I'm not 100% of my fourth letter in 33 A (I know which is the extra letter).

For those without the paper, this is a themed crossword with a very long preamble - so I haven't given the clue, hoping that other Inquisitor solvers can help. Sorry!

Hello Malone. Yes, stopped - died, eating two kings. R and K in this instance.

That's what I had, but there was just something about it I didn't like! Thanks.

Completed the grid, got thematic items etc.
But, don't see why the four unclued entries are completed "in accordance with . . . .etc"

I think it's just a case of applying the last five words (of the quotation) literally - and the result is against the spirit of the quote (as '[A] DON'T need [B]').

Hope this makes some sort of sense!
