I don't do the Guardian, although my Dad used to like it. Chrise appears to be the Guardian guru, I'm sure he'll help you out if needed, so stick at it.

Elle, the Guardian's stated policy is to have the hardest weekday crossword on a Wednesday.
Today is Wednesday!
Have a go tomorrow with whoever is setting and see how you go.

Hi Elle,
If you are trying to master the Guardian cryptic crossword you may not be aware of this brilliant web site which explains the answers to all the clues the following day.

Hi, Rossim!
How are you?
Thank you for that - yes, I did know about it but only learnt of it on Tuesday when chrise told me of it.
I shall study it today to see where I fell down on yesterday's crossword! (I found it much harder than my first attempt the day before!)
As it gives ALL the answers though, you can expect to see me asking for help on here if needed 'en route' so to speak ( the trouble with looking up one answer on a site like that, you inadvertently see other answers too!
but it will be great to learn from, when I've given up!

Hi elle
The online versions of the Guardian crosswords give you the opportunity to "Check" answers you aren't sure of, and to "Cheat" if you are completely stuck (not the Saturday Prize ones, of course).

Great, Chris! that's just what I need today ! I 've done quite a bit of the puzzle but cannot do 13 A and 15/25 A and don't understand the answer to 5D or why 'Cumberland sausage' is the answer to 24A/ 7D?!
I feel a strong urge to 'cheat' coming on......!
