109a Clue...Loosens a grip (8) U?C?A?P?
UNCLASPS or UNCLAMPS ?

I'm good to go with UNCLASPS but before I commit myself by inking in the grid, does anyone think differently?

Very poor clue - I think I would just go for UNCLAMPS, but it's nearly 50:50.

online dictionary shows. unclasp

unfasten (something fastened with a clasp or similar device).
"they unclasped their seat belts"
release the grip of.
"I unclasped her fingers from my hair"

Are you sure of the "c", Drumbeat?
I was pondering ungrasps?

rusty,the 'c' comes from clue 103d ....'performed on stage' answer 'acted'

I can't find ungrasp in Chambers, but ungrasped (online) shows "not fully apprehended" I am sticking with unclasps

So, I would suggest unclasps?

I think I''ll go with UNCLASPS.
As jazzgirl states....one possible answer from an online dictionary gives as examples...."release the grip of".
"I unclasped her fingers from my hair".

The clue 'Loosens a grip' suggests the answer is to do with the hands.

I'll cover all bases though by writing UNCLAMPS in red ink outside the grid, stating that this is a possible alternative answer.

As chrise has stated...it's a poor clue which is par for the course with the Daily Record.
