@ chrise

I voted for your clue because I could solve it without a parse and it showed humour. It seems that some contributors are seeking increasingly difficult words to clue and then competing to produce the most complicated 'wordplay'. I really don't think that new contributors will be attracted by this - indeed I fear some regulars (including me) have already got fed up with it.

Congratulations, BigBad, and thanks, fieryjack. Thanks also to paul for the vote. I must say I'd rather parse clues myself and ask for enlightenment if I'm really stumped; the answer's already there after all.

I did not compete as I had a busy weekend with visitors.
Maybe the winter would be a better time.

When I do PR, if I don't get the wordplay I usually dismiss that clue and vote for one I understand.
Yes Rambler, really difficult words do put me off too.

Weekends are always going to be a little tricky--- especially during the summer months. I still think this is a nice idea though and lets just see how it goes, i feel it is worth carrying on --- like rossim i was busy this weekend and am away next ---- but hopefully this will be a turnover 'thing with, who's about'.
I however, agree with rambler, off putting/obscure words that have very loose or nigh-on impossible definitions to clue are possibly why people are reluctant to participate.
Just a thought, ----- maybe the weekend peer review could be restricted to phrases rather than just a word? Would this allow more scope and fun for cluing?

I didn't enter this weekend because I was too busy. But I agree with rambler and rossim, some of the clues are so complicated, even wih parsing, I am not really surprised we haven't attracted any new people. I agree with rossim that I don't vote for a clue I don't understand, after due thought and knowing the answer.
I know I am not nearly as good at cluing as some of you, no, as most of you.

Thank you for the votes aristo , les and ginge .

Cheers for the prize jack , hope your legs ease up soon .

I may change a couple of things next weekend , it will be set out in the preamble . Any suggestions are welcome - the most important things are to attract more entrants and have an enjoyable contest .

See you all soon

Well done Marty and thanks Jack. Was that you in the band?

Marty - I agree with other comments about not parsing unless requested. Also I think would be better to go back to the original tiningof Friday night/Sat morning for the start and Sunday lunch for clse of votes. Perhaps a catchy title, I suggested "something for the weekend?" might help.

I also think that easy to clue words with many clueing options will be the most attractive - that's why I started off with "green"
