Just finished this week's which was enjoyable.
I would appreciate the parsing of 19d which fits if the answer is a bird. Bird seed put on that animal(5) I can see pip for seed but not that animal.

Are not animals often referred to as "it", rather than "he" or "she"?

Chambers gives "it" as a lower animal.

I think that must be "it" rusty :)

It (Chambers, not the animal) was right next to me on the sofa ! My friend's dog is also on the sofa but I would never refer to her as an it :)

Hi all have only just finished the crossword but cannot parse 13 down,. Pin one both sides in water plant (9) ? Q ? I ? E ? I ?
The solution I've put is another name for Granny's Bonnet or Columbine but although it fits I cannot see why Help appreciated
