Hi jolan, had to go to town on the bus this morning so I took a copy of your clues to pass the time. I think I've got them all except #3, which completely eludes me.

Thanks for these, Jolan, challenging and enjoyable in equal measure as always.
Very glad to hear that today went well.
Here is my stab at the clues-

1 Throw off control and stop conspicuous cheaters playing (4,4,3,6)- KICK OVER THE TRACES?
Stop- kick, conspicuous – overt + cheaters anagram – kick over the traces- to throw off control?

2. Sister to cruel British male poet. She’s one too! (8)- ROSSETTI?
Anagram of “Sister to” gives Rossetti – Christina and her brother Dante Gabriel Rossetti were poets?

3. Type of salt added from the outside (2,5)- AB EXTRA?
AB – type of sailor – salt, and added- extra- ab extra- from the outside?

4. Too controlled to be an unsuccessful person (4-3)- ALSO RAN?
Too – also + controlled – ran- also ran – unsuccessful person?

5. Repressive sea captain takes no further action? (4,2,3,5)- SITS ON HIS/HER HANDS – What a repressive sea captain (of either gender, both fit) would do gives an expression meaning take no action?

Thanks again, Jolan.
Keep well.
AB

Good Lord. The first thing I thought of was Rossetti. Feeling very stupid.

Well done vico.

ab! Wow! Perfect parsing (and to have Ari "doff his hat" in your direction is no mean feat. No need for me to post further.

I'm rushing out to a meeting now and will peek in again much later.

Thanks all for participating
