Ah I now see what's happening. But I'm still struggling with really difficult clues.

I'm making very slow progress but would be glad of hints for 11 & 12 dn & 17 ac. Also I have an answer, oxxxa, for 21 across but can't reconcile this with the definition.

11d not sure how to parse it, but i think it jewish religious person plus n. 12d remove G to and look for word for old bank plus three letter word for increases. Definition is connections. 17a definition is man in sense of what one would play with in game of chess. 21a you need a girl's name. Letters you have are correct.

Thanks for the hints - puzzle now completed. Wow! Actually the +n in 11 dn seems to give an alternative name for the Jewish person.

Please help with 21Ac. I have O-ORA and can get OR around note plus o plus a(thletic) but have no idea of the girl's name this makes.
