One letter for King, then porter should be obvious.

Yes, got there eventually.

Ironically I had "ticked" it as a great clue for COLE - slaw, old King and Porter (though I suppose de-capitalising Porter might have been regarded as cheating in the clueing).

1d. Wear as in wear away with nothing "o" inside (during) making a word for a raid.
21d. A variety of cabbage made from K for king over a word for porter as in a kind of beer.

Thanks cantersue

The point I was making about 1d is that it more obviously reads "nothing in a word for raid to make a word for wear".

Hi Devonian
19D think of a dry wine (champagne, especially)
24 was an unfamiliar word to me too, but a related word for showing off cleavage I did know!

Glad to see you back Jazzgirl as I missed your comments last week. I too was stuck on 24A but got it now thanks to Quick Save!! However, true to form am still stuck on 23A `Meeting point to go fishing` (5) I have ?n?l?.

Glad you all seem to have sunny days, this is so even here and my magnolia is in full bloom. Am hoping the wind and/or cold does not return and send all the blooms to the ground before I can capture it in paint.
