Good afternoon Jolan and thank you,
I've been in the garden all day. Beautiful sunshine here in Devon although a bit on the breezy side.
On the first reading I can see #1.

Great clues as always. I’m at work- so only occasionally get the chance to look in. Even when you say they are easy I often find they are quite devilish. No Jolan special today though!

My suggestions are:

1. Deadlocks made from metal forged in gorges (10) STALEMATES. Anagram of metal in Sates (gorges)

2. Arrange STUVW (4) STOW. S to W as in what the letters the letters stuvw represent in the alphabet.

3. Encourage bitter criticism (10) BACKBITING Back (encourage) biting (bitter)

4. Condemn the so-called best food (10) KNOCKWURST. Knock (condemn) Wurst sounds like worst or best in the sense of defeat.

5. A thing of little or no importance alongside wee carving, perhaps (8) FIGURINE, Fig(something of little importance) Urine is wee.

Enjoy your Easter break- going anywhere nice?

Just the one, as I had an unexpected guest here
this afternoon.

5. figurine . I thought the clue had a lovely 'flow' to it (sorry!)
Thanks jolan

Thanks jolan - just put the last dish in the heated cabinet to await the workers (poor things).

Lovely clues - very amusing today! (I just had STOW - it reminded of the poor chap who went back to complain to the jewellers that he had asked for the ring to be engraved "From A to Z" - from Adam to Zelda, not the whole flaming alphabet!)

Nice ones, Jolan. Have a great trip. We're heading Down East (to use a New Englandism) the week after Easter, so I'll "see" you in three weeks. Have to run, but will check for your post later.

Great stuff! Hi to Chris and Rossim also. 5/5 for Dj and Ari. No need for my working as dj has parsed it fully (Ta).

Re the Easter break. We never plan anything. Just hop into the car and away with us. We'll probably cover most of N. Wales and, maybe, pop over to Dublin for a bit. I'll be popping home from time to time, just for a look around, so I might appear on the site.

Hope to put "Jalan's 5" back on, Tue May 6th.

Have a lovely Easter

John

Thanks Chris and, Ari, have a good trip. I left my last post half finished as the air ambulance just skimmed my house and landed in an adjacent field. I think it was a poor chap living on my road. The land ambulance brought someone in a chair (all wrapped up) around to the field and it's off to hospital now. 25 miles away. Super service!
