USES.
Paul, SOCKETS would give U _ C _ for Customs
applications.

It fits in with skewers too.

(sorry didn't read your first post closely enough)....which woud mean Rossims answer fits, although "sockets" matches the definition more closely. Are you sure about the first "U"?

(another answer to 7 could be "rastfarians" or " students" which sadly do not fit...)

It is a cryptic crossword so I'm sticking with skewers!
