Second rule ignored by first early arrival - THINK BIRTH for the early arrival bit

Gaelic men are taken in by elected politician - this is really quite a simple one - just a 3 letter gaelic m A n 's name - fits in the grid at the top of column 8 with a space after the 1st letter

Money withdrawn from field of study in academy ....

fits at the bottom of column 6 , 6 letters, leave a space after the 1st 2 (later you will see that there is only ONE possible letter here that can fill the space)

Well done, alan: I thought somebody else might like it, too! It's always extremely difficult, but (I find) rewarding!

Victory at last! And a present that just suits me! Was worth all that trouble after all! As I'm bowing out of the world of crosswords, particularly happy to have won this one!

I'm still waiting for a present that suits me; perhaps the future will oblige. Congratulations, GK, but what's this about leaving this world?

Yes, Aristo: I'm not intending to leave this world completely, not yet (tho' you never know): I just feel I've done enough crosswords & quizzes with online assistance now. I shall still continue to look in on Clueless & Peer Review (at least until together they reach the sum of 300, in a few weeks) & no doubt try to lend a helping hand here & there, just for fun. This is perhaps a good occasion to thank all those generous spirits everywhere who've helped me repeatedly over the last few years. It's been a great experience, enriching, amusing, educative. And no doubt I'll be back some day (without changing my rather off-putting pseudonym) when the withdrawal symptoms become too unbearable. First a long hot summer here, though, and on the rainy days, plenty of good books etc. Don't be sad: no more monologues where I answer my own questions etc! Au revoir!

I'm sorry you're almost leaving GK but I know better than try to dissuade people whose minds are made up. Well done for winning the crossword prize and I'm glad it was something worthwhile.
Best wishes
R

Greedy Kite,
I'm sorry you won't be visiting the forum for a while but I'm sure you have your reasons. Several people have gone on to do different things but pop in occasionally to say hallo. I hope you do the same. You will be missed as I have appreciated your input for the past 2 years.
So I really hope it is just Au Revoir.
Have a good summer and take care. Rossim
