Thanks for the clues, jolan - I'm cooking at the moment (cooking some food, I mean!), so I'll look back in later to admire your more difficult constructions.

Whisper it - I use Chrome with AdBlockPlus and have no problems with adverts at all (I know that this is selfish).

Shhhhh! I've always been reluctant to download Adblock (I use chrome too). I'm getting so frustrated with the ever more intrusive nature of the ads that I'll seriously think of installing it. Thanks.

hi jolan
I was called round to a neighbour and didn't have much time but all I saw was #3 Toodle-oo. (subtractive anagram) I look forward to seeing the others later. Thanks as always . Jg x

Thanks for the challenge Jolan.
I think everyone else must be outside, and who can blame them?

It's not just you! I'm also finding the adverts a pain at the moment. For the ones without an x button I right click and close the tab on the toolbar. I turn my sound off. Like you I've tolerated them because I'd hate to lose this fantastic site.

Hi Jolan

Glad you're ok.

I wasn't expecting to see you today hence my late response.

I think the outstanding number 4 is abbreviation

Thanks Rossim. I've right-clicked, saw nowt about closing the ad but never thought of looking at the bar. I'll try that before installing Adblock. However it;s the fact that no matter where one moves the cursor, one is likely likely to 'awaken' the dreaded hum. I even opened an ad when clicking on the "reply" button.

My tummy is rumbling, the ox is roasted so off I go. I may leave the last tow overnight. See you!

Ah! While I was waffling on, I see Andy got 5 and Daniel solved 4. Brill! I'll post 'em up now.

1. hem = skirt (Chambers & Ox Thes’i); AHEM = used to draw attention to oneself (Chambers def)

2. (double) FOUNDERS

3. Subtractive anag (away & wrong) of “stole one to do” – “sent” = TOODLE-OO = goodbye = so long.

4. bb = books (Chambers def); about = re; bbre (so far); flying = aviation; books about, flying around = a(bbre)viation = ABBREVIATION = GB, say

5. bill = poster; a flyer = a tern; bill a flyer put in = p(a tern)oster =(to give) PATERNOSTER = a lift for goods or passengers .... (Chambers def)

Thank you all for participating. See you next week (I'll make a mental note on a piece of paper, to help me remember). lol
