I've been looking at it on line for a few minutes now.
Think I have the top left corner working and in reply to Peter the letter pattern could be ?????/?e????? , but that is as far as I've got.
Curiouser and curiouser said Alice.

I think 23a is New Testament which would give a T in the second word

Not teasing !. I think it could be something Testing (2nd word) with Test being the big game. I have to go out now and get my Sunday Times...will check in on my return

And to think my interpretation of "big game" was lion, tiger, rhino, etc.
