First Listener after a long lay off and found it to be fairly straightforward . However cannot parse 27A . Would appreciate some assistance please.
Cheers!

I understood it as 'result of bookmaking' (compiling) is a 'tome'

Well I have MURIEL (mathematician) for 28, with 'final character' as the definition to be removed, but can't find the jumble it refers to nor can I see another 8-letter participant.
If I'm wrong, and it is ZURIEL, then I don't get 27 which surely must be TOME

Okay - ignore my last!
Had been away from this one for a few days and forgot the theme. Understand now.

Easier Listener than usual with the theme quickly discernible. I think I've got all the thematic references sorted out, but am stuck with 25a and 25d. I assume 25a must be NAG from the wordplay, but can't understand how it meets the definition. That leaves me with NAS-R for 25d. There's nothing in Chambers, so assume it's a proper noun: NASIR? Could someone please confirm, or am I on the wrong track?
