I have an answer for 2 but I'm a bit vague with the wordplay, it does make an 8 letter anagram with the letters though so I'll stick with it and see what transpires at 7pm

2) Laid up in bed, ship's officer will lose heart for sure (3/2/5) I'll be bound? Ill - laid up + ship's officer - bosun, losing heart - boun, in bed gives I'll be boun d - for sure?

3) A heartless untruth, trouble for fanatic (10) aficionado? A + fic(t)ion + ado?

4) Gold plated china-Romeo airs as appearing inept (7) amateur? Gold - au + r- Romeo + mate- china gives a mate u r?

You're not supposed to help, guys! Guess I'm brain dead. I've tried to use CHE to no avail.

2- I'LL BE BOUND [ILL BE BO(S)UN D]
3- AFICIONADO [A FIC(T)ION ADO]
4- AMATEUR [MATE in AU + R (Romeo- code letter)]

1) Rico [CHE] t (-ta) - RICOCHET (bounce)

2) Set in stone ? Set in / laid up in bed + George (John) stone, sea captain / set in stone = for sure - / It's a bit vague, I know

3) A + fic (-t) ion + ado - AFICIONADO (fanatic)

4) A [mate] U + R - AMATEUR (inept)

Letters = RT SE AO AR = Aerators ?

What a showoff, AB. I just wasn't thinking in terms of "a lot of" meaning, you know, a word minus two letters.

Really well done everyone, i am touched that you all took the time to play.

The final anagram is indeed RADIATOR

Ab first in again, all correct + the anagram.Sometimes it feels like he's looking over my shoulder and reading my notes, In other words the parse is almost exactly as i have it!

Well thank you all again for your continued support, it makes it all worth while Cheers! all

Ps To all those who looked in and had a bash, but didn't post Cheers!
