Is anyone finding the expert and the affliction difficult today, or am I being dense?

I found the expert quite quickly and didn't bother with the affliction (as I had a vague idea anyway). Post again if there's anything specific I can do to help.

Is the expert someone's name?

Yes - the 'having initially found the expert...' bit showed where to look. The Across clues gave me a great start. (You don't actually need the expert and affliction to finish this crossword, of course - but I did, to get the remedy).

Thanks Malone. Will have to reconsider as I have not got 1A or 2D. Or 41A either, so know I am not getting to grips today. Another pointer would maybe help.

Some clues have something definitive in common - 1 A, 15 A, 17 A, 23 A, 26 A... (There are more in subsequent clues, but I hope this provides enough of a kick start.)
41 A is just a straightforward clue as is 2 D.

Pretty much there, but no idea where to start with this "remedy". Found a few seemingly relevant quotes, but none of them seem to be in the grid.

The quote IS in the grid - it goes down, across, up and across.

Malone, your advice brought revelation whilst asleep! To others still struggling, I suggest you look at Malone's hints again and then run your eye over the grid, particularly for one descriptive word.....
