i don't know which suggestion of Rusty you are referring to but i still think my guess is worth looking into.
here's a clip from the link i posted;

"One poem that people said when mumming was:

Christmas is coming, the beef is getting fat,

Over the years, this was changed into a very similar poem that is said by some carol singers today:

Sorry trevor it really was your clue I was referring to my apologies must have been yet another senior moment.Thanks for the explanation now I understand.
On the other site Mother Mary by Madonna was suggested but fail to see where the question mark is applicable.
