I have come across these clue types before,in american papers, think outskirts of a city.

Hi Ludo i found this in the NY times archive. Is this any use to you?

30. They're way out : EXURBS
Derived from the term "suburb", an "exurb" is an area beyond the suburbs at the very outskirts of a city. Often the "exurb" is used to denote an area inhabited by more wealthy people.
